In 1997, Square Enix first introduced the world of Ivalice to the Final Fantasy series in Final Fantasy Tactics. This departure from the primary Final Fantasy series made an impression thanks to its strategic gameplay and a dark story full of political intrigue. While attention to Tactics was slightly diluted due to the release of Final Fantasy VII in the same year, its soundtrack — the work of Hitoshi Sakimoto and Masaharu Iwata — remains a strong entry in the Final Fantasy musical tradition.
