As FFVIII was my introduction to JRPG and to some extent to RPG in general i’ve always been really attached to the game and its soundtrack.
The Balamb garden theme is the first one that stuck with me since day one of playing, i don’t know why but i clearly remember loving going back to the Balamb Garden also for the music, a tranquil, reassuring, homely melody.
I’ve been a performer, arranger and composer of traditional and orchestral music for many years and i had a sort of ‘love at first sight’ with the idea of creating a sort of ‘celtic’ or ‘nordic’ arrangement of the original track, a tribute to uematsu and to the northern culture that inspired the world of fantasy. Having My father playing the celtic harp on the project has been an incredible experience besides giving the arrangement the exact feeling that i was looking for, a true rendition of the original with a slight taste of ‘realistic fantasy’.
