Find Your Way was originally an instrumental midi piece with a hauntingly beautiful mood. The original track features a distinct piano arpeggio with a 16th triplet rhythm, which makes the song suitable for solo piano. To give a more unique feel to the track, Jason chose to change the timing of the left hand from a straight 8th note rhythm to a waltz-like 8th triplet rhythm, adding a more interesting counterpart to the right hand rhythm. The song begins with the 8th triplet feel, which leads the listener into feeling a waltz-like rhythm until the right hand arpeggios begin, which then changes the perceived rhythm to the correct 16th triplet feel. The song was learned by ear, and improvised during the recording. As an improvised piece, this specific implementation of the song was not rehearsed, and thus contains mistakes that were turned into additional improvisations. Improvisation lends itself to a more realistic, raw-sounding recording, where Jason’s emotions during the song can be expressed unhindered and different versions of the song can be explored, while still following the structure of the original music. The song was recorded on a 9’ Steinway D at The Piano Studio in Seattle.
