“2am Emergency at the Pokemon Center” - During the curation process for this album, producer Elizabeth Zharoff asked the musicians involved to cover some tracks from a list of notable games that had yet to be claimed. The music from Pokemon stuck out to me since many of the tunes are simple enough to be molded and shaped to my liking. After a failed attempt at setting the eerie theme from Lavender Town, I settled on the rather banal tune from the Pokemon Center, one which is likely familiar to anyone who has played any of the flagship Pokemon games. But over the course of composing the work, a darker narrative began to emerge, once I began creating the text. The scene is narrated from the perspective of the attending nurse behind the front counter trying desperately to communicate with the protagonist of Twitch Plays Pokemon as he runs sporadically around the lobby. In an historically revisionist retelling of the Gospel of Helix, Red, lacking Pokemon Insurance, threatens to sacrifice his newly acquired AA-j and the rest of his team to the bowels of the PC unless the center agrees to heal the injured Zapdos for free.
