My version of 'The Sleep of Death' is primarily inspired by Old Time music, which includes elements like the clawhammer-style banjo playing, prominent fiddle, and its instrumentation.
Ever since I first heard this soundtrack, I have been overwhelmed and moved by its beauty. I was drawn to 'The Sleep of Death' in particular because of the power in its simplicity, drawing its focus to the solo voice and violin before bringing in soaring choral harmonies. I wished to retain a similar sentiment, and have a more introverted and sparse introduction, with solo vocals and clawhammer banjo, reminiscent of an Appalachian folk ballad, and then vocal harmonies to highlight the refrain. I want to thank everyone I worked with on this piece, especially the three musicians whose artistry and talent brought out new dimensions to the arrangement. Thank you as well to Jacob and Sebastian for having the vision and organization to put this all together.
