Using Akira Yamaoka's beautiful original track as a base, I sought to musically convey a Buddhist concept called the Ten Worlds, internal states of life that we inhabit in any given moment, shaping and affecting the perception of the environment around us…the parallels to Silent Hill are inescapable for any fan of the series. The saxophone, played with great emotional range and finesse by Derek Fong, navigates these multiple worlds, particularly lower worlds such as the melancholy suffering of hell and the aggressive hostility of animality. At one point, the saxophone seems to break free, and desperately erupts into a groovybubba state of rapture, but its relative happiness doesn't last, and is consumed and overtaken by the darkness of the lower worlds.
