Ever since I became interested in the Sonic franchise as a musician, I have wanted to do a rendition of the Special Stage theme from Sonic 3 & Knuckles, but for a long time I wasn’t sure what it could be. When the time to work on MOBIUS came around, I decided that I finally could take it on and try to do it justice, and it was a no-brainer as to what style to take it in. Instantly, I decided to channel my Puerto Rican roots and re-orchestrate the song to fit a modified Latin jazz ensemble, similar to Héctor Lavoe or Tito Rodríguez, and it all just fit like a glove. Similar to the original game, I decided to change tempos at various sections in the song, gradually making its pace more fervent, and considering the fact that the rhythm section was left to do whatever they felt fit the piece, they did exactly what I was hoping they would do, and any variations only enhanced the piece further.
