The Dreamcast era of Sonic the Hedgehog may be the most divisive in the series’ history, but one thing is for sure – everyone loves this song. From the cool bass intro to the fast-paced drums to the catchy lyrics that are literally impossible to not sing along to, “Escape From the City” is the perfect tune for sliding down the streets of San Francisco on part of a helicopter. This reimagining of the song is much heavier than the original, leaving the pop punk vibe behind for something more akin to 80s thrash metal. I could never do vocals myself, so I enlisted the help of good friend and fellow Sonic-addict Dakota Puerto to fill in. I’ve never had so much fun recording a song, and I hope you all like it!
