J-E-N-O-V-A is one of my all-time favorite Uematsu pieces, mostly for its off-kilter nature. Few boss battle tracks manage to toe the line between uplifting and heart-stopping in the way that J-E-N-O-V-A does, and this strange balance is what inspired this arrangement.
Something that has always grabbed me about Final Fantasy VII's score is the character of the original MIDI samples. My goal with this piece was to pay homage to different eras of music in games, to capture the scale of modern game score and the character of a classic 8-bit track. It is my hope that the duality of this instrumentation mirrors the tumultuous emotional content of the original piece.
Thanks for listening.
